Help Get another Wonder Wagon Rolling!

Fairfax County Park Authority's (FCPA) first Wonder Wagon Mobile Nature Center is a special vehicle bringing environmental and nature programs to underserved and underrepresented communities. Neighbors attending community outreach events, summer camps, SACC programs at Title 1 schools in Fairfax County and other popular gatherings have fun with hands-on learning about our local environment. WONDER stands for 'Wild Outdoor Nature Discovery Everywhere Revealed!"

In 2025 alone, the Wonder Wagon reached 7,400 individuals through 108 site visits. In addition to parks, the Wonder Wagon met residents where they are, at FCPA camps, senior centers, community centers, festivals, School-Aged Child Care (SACC) facilities, libraries, food distribution events, Earth Day Fairfax and many other events! Environmental education is offered to supplement the Virginia science Standards of Learning content; to promote county-wide messaging and initiatives; and to lead positive civic outcomes.
The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) aims to ensure that underserved areas of the county have access to FCPA's environmental and recreation programs to enhance connections with the outdoors and build healthy communities. The Wonder Wagon is a literal vehicle for activating parks and providing memorable experiences. By interacting with the natural, cultural and recreational resources in their own communities, residents gain from the benefits of outdoor play and exploration in their own neighborhoods.

The popularity and overwhelming number of requests for the Wonder Wagon is proof that a second version is needed to adequately meet demand. Based on experiences, FCPA is looking for a smaller vehicle that can easily fit into a single parking space. This nimbler electric or hybrid vehicle with a 150+ mile range, and climate-control throughout, with an awning canopy for shade will expand its service delivery to Fairfax County residents and continue to target their reach to children and families in low-income communities.
Help us reach the goal of $100,000 to purchase, outfit, and operate a second Wonder Wagon experience. Additional funding will be put to good use directly toward the continued operation of this important outreach program.

Environmental education and outdoor recreation are not just all fun and games, they are a critical part of community resilience and child development through connections, healthy play, exploration and discovery. A priceless investment in our future.
The reviews are in! The Wonder Wagon is a hit - It is a truly WONDERful educational experience!
