The McLean Central Park Playground Team (MCPT), a grassroots group of local moms, reached out to the Park Authority (FCPA) to determine what is necessary to move the playground project forward. Understanding the funding need, the group decided to attract fundraising support through the Park Foundation to make the renovated playground a reality. Fairfax County Park Foundation (FCPF) is partnering with FCPA and MCPT to accept gifts for the playground renovation campaign at the popular and much-loved McLean Central Park, located at 1468 Dolley Madison Boulevard in Mclean, Virginia!
The current playgrounds are dated and in need of many upgrades and improvements as well as an expansion to better suit families who enjoy this park. Separate playgrounds in different areas of the park, limit use for families with children of different ages.
The new centrally located playground design caters to multi-age children as well as children with special needs! Your contribution for this exciting project will bring joy to many neighbors and visitors by helping to make the following features possible.
- Larger Footprint will allow for a combined totlot and school age play areas.
- More Seating throughout the play areas will expand the limited seating.
- Fenced-in Totlot (pending available funding)
- Poured-in-place Rubberized surfacing - similar to Clemyjontri Park – will replace mulch in this naturally damp area.
- New play Features and sensory play equipment including an adaptive tandem swing will replace outdated play equipment.
FCPA identified 40% funds of the total budgeted cost of $675,041 for the playground and totlot. This 2023 fundraising campaign goal of $400,000 is underway to provide remaining funds needed to design and build this playground.
