FCPA Camps, Classes, Adapted & Equity Outreach Programs
In Fairfax County, 67,258 people live in poverty and 18,923 of those are children. Many of these people live on less than $25,100 a year in the second wealthiest county in the United States, and enriching FCPA educational classes are simply out of reach for them.
It’s important that individuals with limited financial means, those living in underrepresented areas and people with intellectual and physical disabilities can participate in Fairfax County Park Authority activities and experience healthy lifestyles.
Several years ago, the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) and Fairfax County Park Foundation (FCPF) adopted Fairfax County’s One Fairfax the racial and social equity policy that commits Fairfax County and the FCPA to intentionally consider equity when making policies, planning, and delivering programs and services. Focusing through an equity and fairness lens provides that all Fairfax County residents can access its quality parks and that programs are within reach regardless of their race, color, sex, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, disability, income or where they live.
The Park Foundation welcomes charitable donations to fund impactful outreach programs and community events that provide equitable and inclusive access for our neighbors. Scholarships and support for adapted classes and equipment to accommodate people with disabilities. Accessible playgrounds and trails will be enjoyed by all throughout Fairfax County.
The Wonder Wagon Mobile Nature Center brings environmental and nature programs throughout Fairfax County and underserved communities. Popular FCPA community events including Earth Day Fairfax, Lunar New Year Celebration, Culmore Community Day, and the Summer Entertainment Series concerts and outdoor movies remain free to attendees.

Adapted Recreation Programs
Adapted Recreation Programs offer adults and children with physical and developmental disabilities receive hundreds of hours of important individualized activities (Pilates, gymnastics, ice and roller skating, art classes, music, and more) at FCPA Rec Centers, parks and facilities. These classes also include learn-to-swim classes, aquatic exercise, and training for Special Olympics and Paralympic Swim team competition!
Each of these quality programs is led by an instructor and is individualized to meet the varying needs of participants with support from trained volunteers who get in the pool and work one-on-one with swimmers. The program provides a supportive and encouraging environment to teach individuals with disabilities basic swimming and vital water safety skills. FCPA’s adapted programs offer a more structured environment and a lower staff ratio. Learn more about Recreation Services for Customers with Disabilities.
The Park Foundation is grateful for our many supporters, like you, who help neighbors in need to have greater access to your beautiful parks, engaging classes, and enriching programs!
