
Nigel A. Fields is the Fairfax County Park Authority's Deputy Director for Planning and Development. As Deputy Director, he oversees the Stewardship and Planning Division, Development Division, and Marketing and Communications Division. Nigel serves as the Park Authority Director’s Office liaison to the Fairfax County Park Foundation. In this role, he builds connections between the two organizations that result in a strong collaboration to maximize grants, sponsorships and partnerships to enrich Fairfax County parks.
Nigel is a leader in conservation, park development, environmental science and land use planning and management. He has held senior positions at the National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency. During his distinguished career, his passion for healthy environments, cultural preservation, community participation and his appreciation for locals’ love of public spaces have been a constant.
From the Great Smoky Mountains to the coral reefs of the US Virgin Islands, Nigel has a track record of bringing visionary change to diverse parks and directing community renewal and partnership initiatives. Most recently, he served as the Director of the EPA’s Office of Community Revitalization, where he directed land use, disaster resilience, and community-based climate justice programs.
