Park Authority Board Chairman Kiel Stone was first appointed to the board in 2017 representing the Braddock District. He was elected chairman by his board colleagues in 2023. Chairman Stone also presently serves as chairman of the board’s Resource Management Committee and liaison to the Federation of Friends. He is actively leading efforts to enhance the partnership between the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Park Foundation to maximize opportunities that attract support for Fairfax County’s much-loved parks.
Stone currently serves as associate director for the Center for Retail Transformation at George Mason University, where he is also a doctoral candidate in the Environmental Science and Policy Program. Prior to this, he was associate director for George Mason University’s Business for a Better World Center. He is a strong advocate for the FCPA’s stewardship of the environment and the county’s natural open spaces, and the importance of community involvement in county parks.
His 15-year career has included a variety of project management, communications, and public affairs roles spanning the governmental, non-profit, and higher education sectors. This includes time in the president’s office at The Nature Conservancy, and five years as chief of staff and political director in the office of former Braddock District Supervisor John C. Cook. In addition to his role with the Park Authority, Stone formerly sat on the board of Volunteer Fairfax. He earned a master’s degree in natural resources at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a bachelor’s degree in economics at George Mason University.
