Gary W. Kirkbride is a senior vice president and urban planner at Dewberry. Gary possesses over 30 years of planning experience with emphasis on the local level, including management of planning activities for an urban jurisdiction. Responsibility for a variety of land use studies and review of development proposals for high-density residential, commercial, office and hotel uses have been the major focus of his recent work. He has experience with administrative and public plan review, managing private and public sector projects, as well as providing expert testimony.
Prior to joining Dewberry, Gary served in various roles including the Deputy Planning Director for the Planning Division for Arlington County.
Membership in professional organizations including the American Planning Association (APA); NAIOP, Commercial Real Estate Development Association, Northern Virginia Chapter. Gary is a former president of the Arlington Chapter, Northern Virginia Building Industry Association and life member of NVBIA.
Gary earned his Master’s of Urban and Regional Planning at George Washington University. He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Economics degree from Purdue University.
Gary Kirkbride joined the Fairfax County Park Foundation Board of Directors in 2015. He volunteers on a number of organizations and committees in Arlington County including the Arlington County Building Code Board of Appeals; Chesapeake Bay Ordinance Review Committee; Economic Development Commission, Zoning Ordinance Review Committee and Urban Forestry Committee. He also serves on the Development Review Committee in Prince William County and is the Treasurer of the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT).
