Sara Baldwin is the Acting Executive Director of the Fairfax County Park Authority. For the last nine years Sara has served as the Deputy Director/Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Park Authority. In her role as COO, Sara oversees the operations of the Park Authority’s Golf Courses, RECenters, Nature Centers, Historic Sites, camps, classes, parks and maintenance.
Previously, Sara served as the Director of Certification and Accreditation for the National Recreation and Park Association where she had the opportunity to work with park and recreation agencies and professionals throughout the United States. Additionally, Sara served as Neighborhood and Community Services, Division Director for Therapeutic Recreation. Sara was instrumental in growing recreation programs for individuals with disabilities in Fairfax County and fostering the development of nonprofit organizations to expand the opportunities for individuals of all abilities. Early in her career Sara worked as a Recreational Therapist at Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute and in Fairfax County’s Adult Day Health Care Centers.
Sara has led the Park Authority through multiple CAPRA accreditation reviews always meeting 100% of the standards. She serves as the Park Authority’s One Fairfax Equity Lead and is passionate about ensuring equitable access to parks and recreation services for all residents. Sara holds a BA in Recreation and Leisure Services, with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from Radford University.
